Weddings
Location
We can provide two venues for a wedding reception:
Firstly in our purpose-built Paul Woodhouse Suite. This can accommodate up to 80 people, the additional use of the main Refectory and terrace area can cater for up to 200 people for your evening requirements (please ask for room hire charges).
Secondly, a marquee on the spacious lawn of the historic gardens of No.1 The Close, which offers a unique setting and magnificent views of the Cathedral.
Our approach to catering for your wedding is one of flexibility, whereby we can offer you our menu selector and wine list. This will provide you with various menus we can offer for your special occasion.
This selection is just a suggestion and our chef would be very happy to produce any alternative dishes you may request to suit your own personal requirements and budget.
We are able to offer full sit down meals, buffets or barbeques, all with fully licensed bar.
Should
you wish to provide your own wine or Champagne, a corkage fee of £5.75
per opened 75cl bottle of wine and £7.50 per opened 75cl bottle of champagne will be charged. Our staff will be happy to chill
and serve this for you. We can also arrange entertainment for you if you
so wish.
We do not have set menus for weddings as we feel that a wedding is a special and individual occasion and it is better to discuss your requirements over a coffee, with no obligations involved.
Waiting Staff
Our waiting staff are all trained and carefully selected to make your
function run smoothly and efficiently.
Printing
We will be happy to advise you with regard to the printing of orders of
service, menus, place settings, table plans etc.
Flowers and Photography
There are two other special services we can offer: we have obtained permission
from the Chapter of Winchester for photographs of the bride, groom and
immediate families to be taken within the Cloisters; also floral decorations
can be supplied by our team of expert Cathedral flower arrangers, if required.
Marquee / Site Hire
We would ask you to use our nominated marquee supplier, who has experience
of the special Cathedral environment, access and requirements and will
be happy to quote for your individual event:

In
addition to the cost of the marquee itself, there is a site fee of £1500
(inc VAT) for the use of No. 1 The Close. This price includes the following
facilities:
• Security
• Licence application and fee, should
alcoholic drinks be sold
• Power, and the use of the power supply
• Changing facilities
• Toilet facilities within No. 1 (however,
should numbers exceed 80, we would recommend additional portable toilets,
which we can arrange for you).
• Croquet, garden golf and bowls
• Full use of the historic garden during
your time there.
Please note: prices quoted in the menu selectors are for food and
staff only when receptions are held in the marquee. We will be happy to
quote for the crockery and linen hire when you have a clearer idea of
numbers.
Owing
to the unique setting of No. 1, licensing permission is only granted to
11.00pm, and therefore the premises will need to be vacated by 11.30pm
Car Parking
If the reception is held in the garden of No. 1 The Close, permits can
be granted for immediate families, although unfortunately we are unable
to offer general car parking facilities. However, there are several public
car parks within easy walking distance of the Cathedral.
Viewing the Site
Should you wish to view either of the sites, we would be very happy to
show you round and discuss the facilities in more detail.
