The Choir

Choristers in a Shaft of Light…Traditionally this was the preserve of boys until, in 1999, a separate treble line was formed, giving local girls the opportunity to share in this rare privilege.

This is the Music Foundation of Winchester Cathedral, where the singing of daily services is the first duty of the world famous Winchester Cathedral Choir.

The glorious heritage of church music in this country is truly one of its greatest treasures, and to be a part of its continuation is an experience of great importance for every one of the members of the foundation. More recently the choir has had a wider ministry. Their regular broadcasts on BBC Radio, international touring, an extensive discography of a wide range of music, and appearance in concerts locally and nationally have all been highly acclaimed.

"Winchester Cathedral Choir are surely one of the best in the land just now... the men are excellent, and all of them sound as if they are singing for the joy of it..."
(The Gramophone)

"The Winchester boys are tonally and technically superb..."
(BBC Music Magazine)

Being a chorister is also one of the finest musical trainings a child can receive and an exceptional opportunity to have an unforgettable experience which stands him or her in good stead for any future career.
