EXHIBITION: THE JANE AUSTEN STORY
Jane Austen was born, lived, wrote and died in Hampshire and is buried in the Cathedral. This creative and surprising exhibition will inspire and delight all Jane Austen admirers.

Centred around Jane's life in Hampshire the exhibition explores the villages, towns, countryside and society that inspired England's favourite female novelist.

Discover through words, audio, imagery and original artifacts the person whose stories and characters have been enjoyed by generation after generation.

Admission: Cathedral entry fees apply.

A number of special events have been arranged to complement this exhibition. Please keep looking at the website for further details. Currently listed: special service (1 May), Jane Austen weekend (16 - 18 July), outside theatre (5 & 6 August) and a themed lunch (20 April).

EXHIBITION: SOCIETY OF PORTRAIT SCULPTORS: IN THIS SACRED PLACE
Society of Portrait Sculptors was founded in 1953, and actively promotes the work of figurative sculptors nationally and internationally.  Its members work across a vast range of disciplines and styles, from ceramic, resin, stone, marble and bronze, and includes hyper-realist through to symbolic and stylized figurative work.  For ‘In This Sacred Place’, much of the work is new, and created specifically to be seen in the context of the fabulous sacred space of Winchester Cathedral.   The main nave of the Cathedral will be dedicated to some of its ‘heroes’, including Jane Austen, Philip and Mary, and King Canute, whose bones rest in the mortuary caskets above the quire. Modern ‘heroes’ include Dean Michael Stancliffe, and the composer John Tavener.  Meanwhile, in the East End of the Cathedral, a profound and striking collection of ‘sacred sculpture’ will include variations on the theme of the ‘Pieta’, entombment and Resurrection, alongside angels, pilgrims and images of meditation and faith.

A SPECIAL JANE AUSTEN EVENT

OUTSIDE THEATRE: JANE AUSTEN'S 'PRIDE AND PREJUDICE' IS BACK!
We're delighted to welcome back our favourite outside theatre company Illyria with their witty and wonderfully imaginative adaptation of Jane Austen's  'Pride and Prejudice'. Illyria performed this at the cathedral in 2004 to a sell out audience. From start to finish the performance was superb, fast-paced and hillarious. As soon as Illyria announced it was to make a come back with welcomed them with open arms, not for one night only but for two! This is a great evening out for a group, friends or family. Bring something to sit on (camping chair or blanket), a picnic and something to sip for a truly enjoyable show. Tickets are on sale now from the Cathedral Box Office on 01962 857 275 or
