Dr Christina Welch explores the concept of purgatory and what that meant for late-medieval people, examines the concept of indulgences and how these related to purgatory, and raises the contentious issue of the supposed experience of those in purgatory. She will relate these issues to the carved cadaver memorials of Bishops Fox and Gardiner.
