Adult Education

Learning never ends. Join us in our varied adult education programme as we aim to enrich and develop a deeper understanding of faith.

It is part of Winchester Cathedral’s mission to give spiritual support, and our talks and courses are designed to both guide and teach. Open to everyone, our varied adult study sessions enable people to consider issues of faith, belief and ethics alongside fellow explorers.

Cathedral Talks

Come and join us for our inspiring series of talks. We run a varied programme of talks and discussions, including sessions on the Bible and contemporary social and ethical issues. We welcome guest speakers, and run some sessions with partners such as the University of Winchester.

Attendance: Open to all. You are welcome to attend individual talks or join us for a whole programme.

Price: Most talks cost £5 or £12 for a series of three. Tickets can be obtained from the Cathedral Box Office or from the Cathedral Office reception desk by calling 01962 857 200.

When: Mondays (lunch at 12.30pm, talk at 1.00pm), monthly from September to April.

Attendance: Open to all.

Price: We ask you to contribute £4.00 to the cost of providing lunch.

Time for Stillness

We all need time for calm and reflection. Winchester Cathedral’s “Time for Stillness” events give you the chance to set aside everyday demands to contemplate and pray with others, helping you to grow as a Christian. There are times of silence, but also a few optional meditations on a theme. Time for Stillness is facilitated by a leader, who will be available for individual conversations.

When: Two a year – in the summer and autumn terms.

Attendance: Open to all.

Price: Usually £10.00-£15.00 to cover expenses.

Action and Advisory Groups

Members of our volunteer Action and Advisory Group give their skills and time to helping us with some key areas of our mission and ministry. Set up by the Dean and supported by members of Chapter, they offer both strategic advice and practical support in the areas of worship, education, outreach activities and links with the Diocese. Those with an enthusiasm and interest in any of these areas are warmly invited to make themselves known.
