Hymns & Psalms from Winchester: Vol I

Since this CD was produced in 1995, it has been justly popular with the many thousands of visitors who come to Winchester year by year. The hymns include such classics as O praise ye the Lord, The Lord is my Shepherd, Christ is made the sure foundation, and The Day thou gavest, Lord, is ended: while the psalms include some of those most frequently sung in the worship of Winchester Cathedral. Vol II has now been released, and appears later in the catalogue.

I Sing of a Maiden

The Pilgrims' School, in Winchester Cathedral Close, educates not one set of choristers but two, and on this CD the choristers of Winchester Cathedral join with the Quiristers of Winchester College in a number of favourite anthems and motets. They are conducted by David Hill and Christopher Tolley, accompanied by Stephen Farr on the organ.

Lloyd Webber: Requiem

The requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber first appeared in the mid-1980s, to a high-profile launch in New York. On this the original recording, conducted by Lorin Maazel, the soloists Sarah Brightman and Placido Domingo are supported by Winchester Cathedral Choir, whose treble soloist Paul Miles-Kingston also plays an important role in the recording.

Mozart: Coronation Mass, K317

The Coronation Mass is perhaps the most joyful of Mozart's settings of the Mass, and on this recording is coupled with the Solemn Vespers and the Epistle Sonata in C major. As with the recording of the Mass in C minor, Winchester Cathedral Choir and the Quiristers of Winchester College are accompanied by The Academy of Ancient Music under the direction of Christopher Hogwood.
