Why support us?

The scale and splendour of our building bear clear witness to the historic patronage of kings and bishops. But today we live in a different age. The Cathedral belongs to all who love it, from local worshippers, students and volunteers, to national and international musicians, artists and visitors from all over the world.

Why support the Cathedral?

It costs £10,000 a day to maintain this magnificent building that hosts so many daily services and great festivals, musical and cultural events, and educational activities open to all.

This great medieval Cathedral has existed for nearly a thousand years, and it’s easy to take its future for granted. But we’re entirely self-funded, and receive no support from the State or the Church to support our buildings or activities.

Whether you value this Cathedral as a place of Christian worship, for its magnificent music or its unique place England’s history, or simply as a great place to meet for a meal or hold an event, you too can help secure its future.

How can I help?

There are so many ways you can show your practical support, and you don’t need to be a practising Christian to do so:

  • Buy an annual pass – Unlimited access to the Cathedral for year, for just £10. If you’re a UK taxpayer you can increase your donation by 25% by completing a gift aid form
  • Make a donation – Whether you light a candle when you visit, put £1 in the collection plate at the Christmas carol service, make a donation or leave us a gift in your will, your contribution counts
  • Volunteer with us – Our Cathedral Volunteers work in a huge range of roles to make all who come here feel welcome
  • Become a Friend – It costs as little as £15 to join, and you’ll be making a valuable contribution to preserving this precious place for the future
  • Find out about our current appeals – We’d like to hear from you, whether you want to support our conservation work, musical heritage or special projects and activities
  • Keep in touch – It takes just a minute to sign up for our regular newsletter

Whatever contribution you can make, it will be hugely valued. And if you’re not able to support us now, please bear us in mind for the future!
