Mark Byford, Lay Canon

Mark Byford is the former Deputy Director General and Head of BBC Journalism (2004-2011). Now an author of non-fiction. His first book ‘A Name On A Wall’ was published by Mainstream in 2013 to wide critical acclaim. His second book, ‘The Annunciation: A Pilgrim’s Quest’ will be published by Winchester University Press later this year. He brings to Chapter extensive experience of high-level leadership and management.

He is also a Governor of the University of Winchester and a Trustee of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. He has three honorary doctorates from the University of Winchester (2006); University of Leeds (2008); and University of Lincoln (2010); all in recognition of his outstanding public service in the fields of broadcasting and journalism.
