Our Choirs

Choral music has been one of the glories of this great Cathedral for nearly a thousand years. It continues to form a key part of our daily rhythm of worship, helping deepen emotions and bring the words of sacred texts alive. We hope that you will want to experience the beauty of our Choirs’ singing.

The Cathedral Choir

This long-established and internationally acclaimed choir includes 22 boy choristers and 12 adult male singers Lay Clerks. You can hear them fill the Cathedral with glorious music from all periods at eight Cathedral services weekly in term time. They also make regular recordings, broadcasts, concerts and international tours. Read more about this choir and how to join

The Cathedral Girls' Choir

Founded in 1998, this choir is made up of 20 girls aged 12–17, all from schools in the Winchester and Hampshire area. You can hear them singing a weekly Sunday service during term time at services and concerts at Easter and Christmas, and on tours, recordings and broadcasts.Read more about this choir and how to join

The Cathedral Chamber Choir

The Winchester Cathedral Chamber Choir consists of 25–30 singers of all ages from the surrounding area, making a rich and valued contribution to the Cathedral’s musical life. You can hear them sing at selected services throughout the year.Read more about this choir and how to join

The Cathedral Nave Choir

The Nave Choir is made up of around 40 singers, all drawn from the Cathedral congregation and friends. You can hear them sing at services that fall outside those covered by the Cathedral Choir.Read more about this choir and how to join

The Cathedral Junior Choir

The Winchester Cathedral Junior Choir was founded in September 2016. Led by Keith Clark, formerly Director of the Hampshire County Youth Choir, the team provide enjoyable and challenging choral activities for members to develop singing and choral skills. Open to children aged 7 to 14. At present, there is no audition for entry into this choir. Read more about this choir and how to join

Visiting choirs
