Between 9.00am and 4.45pm the Chapel of St Alphege will be set aside for silent Prayer and reflection. There will also be Prayer and Confession available in the Epiphany Chapel.

After the 12 Noon Holy Communion, there will be a short meditative Organ Recital, including music by Messiaen, Bach and Tournemire.

Speaking of the day, Dean Catherine Ogle said “All are welcome to this special day at Winchester Cathedral. The Cathedral is a daily visual reminder that God loves us and longs for us to turn to him.  On this day we ask for forgiveness for all that separates us from God and from one another. On Ash Wednesday we remember that we are simply human, we all make mistakes and we can ask for forgiveness.  We can let go of resentment and fear and grow into new life and new love.”

The Cathedral invites everyone to join in the day, marking the start of the Lenten season, either in the Cathedral, at your own church or in your own home.
