The outreach committee’s annual curry supper on 11 October was in aid of Friends of the Family, Winchester. The event was held in the Paul Woodhouse Suite and was very well attended, including Madam Dean and Brother Stewart for the Benedictine Muckwell Abbey, Worcestershire.
Mrs Vivienne Wheeler, Chairman of Friends of the Family, Winchester gave an illuminating and informative presentation. She described vividly the social , economic and personal problems of the families being supported by Friends of the Family, a small, independent, Winchester-based charity. The charity sims to make a positive difference through appropriate support and employs trained volunteers who visit families confidentially at home. There is also a group for mothers and under 5’s where a friendly environment encourages a social network as well as offering individual counseling sessions for parents.
The Outreach Committee’s focus in 2017 is the family, and Mrs Wheeler’s talk outlined how families supported by her charity greatly appreciate having someone to talk to: someone who will listen without judgment.
“the event was very successful. It was an enjoyable curry evening, and many memebers of the Cathedral community contributed to its success, enabling £350 to be raised for the charity” – Christine Curzon Lewis (Outreach Committee).
