Easter Sunday, 12 April

On Easter Sunday we celebrate with joy the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord. This is the turning point in history. We now live in the light and truth of the resurrection.

Alleluia! He is risen! Alleluia!

Normally, on Holy Saturday evening at the First Eucharist of Easter, the special Easter Candle is lit, signalling the passage from darkness to light. This year, sadly, the Cathedral building is closed and there is no service inside there this evening. However, Daren Gibb, the Head Virger, known as Custos, carved the special candle’s insignia during this week at his home and the candle has been taken to the porch of the Deanery, next to the Cathedral, to be lit, ensuring this important tradition over the past one thousand years at the Cathedral has not been broken by the pandemic restrictions.

Join the RSCM Big Easter Evensong (6pm)

Singers from around the country are being invited to join with specially selected choirs (contributing remotely) in a special Choral Evensong. There is more information about how to be involved here.

You can send your own prayers to pray@winchester-cathedral.org.uk and they will be added to our prayer list.
