Today in the Cathedral, you will find places to pray and people who will pray with you. You can make a formal or informal confession to a priest, enjoy creative prayer stations and receive ashes on your forehead informally (outside)Â or formally in the services at 8.00am, 12noon and 5.30pm.
This is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, the season that leads to Easter. We welcome you to this special day at Winchester Cathedral.
Know that God loves you and longs for you to turn to him. There is amazing grave on offer: God's gift to you of his unconditional and boundless love.
On Ash Wednesday we remember that we are simply human, we all make mistakes and we can ask for forgiveness. We can let go of resentment and dear and grow into new life and new love.
On this day we ask, and receive, forgiveness for all that separates us from God and from one another.
'Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.'
Please make sure of this day and take part in what is offered in and around the Cathedral, as you wish.
May God bless you on this holy day.
