Join our Head Jane Austen guides for this very special retracing of Jane Austen’s funeral procession.
Participants are invited to meet on College Street, outside the house where Jane Austen died and lay until her funeral. Then at the same time, exactly 200 years later, walk as her brothers and nephew did from the house through the Inner Close and into the Cathedral.
Her sister Cassandra wrote that she watched from the window as her dear sister left her forever as the procession turned the corner to enter The Close.
As you walk through the Cathedral grounds listen as the bells toll 41 times, one for every year of Jane’s life.
When you enter the Cathedral you will be able to pay your respects at Jane’s grave before being seated for readings from Jane’s own poems and letters.
Tickets are £5 from the Cathedral Box Office.
Numbers are limited due to the nature of the event.
Please meet no later than 8.25 as this event has a prompt start of 8.30am.
After participants are invited to go to the Paul Woodhouse Suite in the Refectory for coffee and an opportunity to talk with our Jane Austen Guides.
