We give a welcomed return visit from the globe-trotting classical guitarist Michael Durrant for this special lunchtime recital.
“A rising star of the classical guitar”
Michael Christian Durrant is one of the most exciting classical guitarists of the current generation. Born in England, he took up the guitar at the age of four and continues to inspire audiences across the world with his expressive playing and engaging character. He is widely recognised for presenting beautifully varied concert programmes, his captivating stage-persona, and his ability to summon forth a huge variety of tone-colours from the guitar.
His years of studies and practice have contributed to him being able to communicate the most nuanced of emotions through his musical interpretations. Following early studies at the Leeds College of Music, from which he graduated with first-class honours, Durrant then went on to study with the world-renowned classical guitarist, maestro Carlos Bonell at the Royal College of Music, London.
An international artist, his touring continues to take him to countries all over the world, and it is our pleasure to welcome him back to Winchester Cathedral for the 2017 Lunchtime Concert Series.
Michael Christian Durrant uses handmade classical guitars by the luthier Sam McClaren. For information about forthcoming concerts, releases and more visit.
