The Blaeu Globes: a study in conservation
This online lecture explains the challenges of a year-long project to conserve the Blaeu globes, which since the 17th Century have resided in the Morley Library, a legacy from George Morley, Bishop of Winchester (1662-1684), to his cathedral.
The lecture sets in context the recent work on these terrestrial and celestial globes, drawing on several case studies in conservation, and explores the tradition of globe-making in which Blaeu’s work stands.
