Access & Facilities

Disabled Access

Please be aware that the chair lift in the North Transept is currently out of operation. We have a brand new lift on order which will be installed at the earliest possible opportunity. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by this and wish to reassure our visitors that the replacement of this chair lift is of the highest priority to the Cathedral.

All wheelchair users can access the ground floor of the Cathedral, but access to some areas may be limited. Please ask at the Entrance Desk for help. Partially sighted visitors may like to visit the Touch & Hearing Centre in the south nave aisle.

We are committed to making the Cathedral accessible to all and offer the following facilities and services:

  • Induction loop
  • Touch and hearing facility
  • Braille guide
  • Sensory trail for pre-booked groups
  • Disabled toilets
  • Wheelchair access to the Visitors’ Centre

Useful information

While we welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and support dogs in Winchester Cathedral, we kindly request that visitors restrict all other animals to the Cathedral grounds. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.

We also kindly request that visitors refrain from bringing food and drink into the Cathedral (with the exception of bottled water).

Thank you for your understanding.
