A glorious selection of Peter Philips’ motets, performed by Winchester Cathedral Choir and The Parley of Instruments, conducted by David Hill.
Philips (1560-1628) a former St Paul’s chorister, left England as a young man, as did so many of his fellow Catholics. A prolific composer, his motets number in the hundreds. Fourteen have been selected here, sung beautifully by our own Cathedral Choir.
“This wonderful programme helps to draw [Philips] from the limbo of nearly 400 years of near-oblivion… a programme of astonishingly rich diversity, vibrantly performed. This record is a must for any lover of choral music of the period’ (Organists’ Review)
