The Accolade is a beautiful wall hanging, taken from a painting by English artist Edmund Blair Leighton.
“The Accolade” was the medieval ceremony that conferred knighthood. Here we see the young squire receiving the accolade from his liege lady. It is a typically Victorian, romanticised image of the Middle Ages, full of exquisite detail and colour, peopled with gorgeous, elegant figures.
These lovely tapestries are woven in Flanders, traditionally the home of the most skilled weavers, and then hand-finished in Cornish workshops.
