Jane Hands is a lawyer with experience of finance, leadership and management. After reading classics at Oxford, she worked for 30 years in London for the international law firm Slaughter and May, first as a solicitor advising companies on financing matters, and later, after a career break to bring up her two sons, as a support lawyer and then Partnership Secretary. This last role effectively involved working as company secretary, supporting the management of the firm on projects and issues ranging from people and compliance through to premises and finance with a particular focus on governance.
Jane’s first experience of cathedrals was as a teenager singing in St Alban’s Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral. Family moves have since led to a variety of experiences and roles in the cathedrals of Canterbury, Portsmouth, Oxford and now Winchester. Jane has been a founding trustee of a charity funding research into ovarian cancer and in retirement is committed to voluntary work in and around Winchester.
