Mark Collinson is responsible for leading and developing Christian discipleship and training people for ministry within the cathedral and diocese. As Canon Principal he embodies a significant connection between the Cathedral and the Diocese thereby contributing to a genuine mission partnership.
He joined Winchester Cathedral in 2015 and works with the Vice-Dean & Canon Chancellor to enhance the education and learning programme. The Canon Principal assists the Bishop to develop the role of the Cathedral as a ’seat of learning’, to grow the Cathedral’s unique contribution to theological education, and connecting the Cathedral with the Diocesan School of Mission. He supports the Chapter in its oversight and governance of all the Cathedral’s ministry and mission.
Mark was previously Area Dean of the Netherlands (Diocese in Europe) and Chaplain of Christ Church Amsterdam, where he was involved in planting new multi-cultural and sociologically diverse Anglican congregations. Prior to ordination he worked in finance, the IT industry and management consulting. He studied international banking in London, and theology at Cambridge University and the Vrij University in Amsterdam. His particular area of research enquires how traditional Anglican ecclesiology relates to to mission.
He is married to Sue, has two children and enjoys playing squash and mountain walking.
