Our society is becoming angrily polarised across a range of cultural and political issues. An internet-driven “cancel culture” prevails over forgiveness and generosity of spirit. Now that we live in a secular and multifaith society, do traditional Christian teachings and practices of reconciliation continue to have a role to play in building up community?
James Walters is the founding director of the Faith Centre at the London School of Economics and a professor in practice in the LSE Department of International Relations. He is the author of several books including Loving Your Neighbour in an Age of Religious Conflict (2019). He is also chaplain to the LSE and an honorary canon of Chichester cathedral.
