Learning outside creates wonderful opportunities for memorable, hands-on learning experiences by exploring the natural beauty around us.
Wessex Rivers Trust Workshops

Working in partnership with Wessex Rivers Trust, we offer two workshops on rivers:
- Chalk Investigation and River Invertebrates
- River Features, Wildlife Walk and the Water Saving Game

Here at Winchester Cathedral, we are the custodians of an incredible chalk stream in our grounds which supports a huge range of plants, invertebrates, fish and other wildlife.

The Wessex Rivers Trust Education Team delivers and guides schools through these interactive sessions.

Did you know that there are only 200 chalk streams in the world and 170 of them are in the UK?
We rely on chalk streams for drinking water and wildlife rely on chalk streams for their habitats.
How to book
Year 3 had an amazing trip today in Winchester to kick off their rivers topic. They took part in some river dipping with the Wessex Rivers Trust and found a huge variety of species living in the river. Lots of shrimp to be found which is a good sign that the water is clean. The also had a tour of Winchester Cathedral and every tour guide was so knowledgeable about the different parts of the Cathedral. Thank you to all of the adults, volunteers and the Cathedral Learning Team who helped the children have a fantastic learning experience.Kings Worthy Primary School
