As part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of Jane Austen’s birth, Bishop Philip will show that, though Christian faith is rarely the explicit focus of Austen’s novels, her writing is shot through with profoundly Christian perspectives and presuppositions.
Bishop Philip studied English at the University of Southampton and taught English for four years before being ordained. Jane Austen is his favourite novelist.
The Rt Revd Philip Mounstephen is the 98th Bishop of Winchester. Along with a wider team of bishops and supporting staff they serve over 250 parishes.
