Wisdom by Innocence is an exhibition showcasing portraits of judges created by local schoolchildren.
The exhibition brings together young artists, teachers and members of the legal community in a project designed to build understanding between children and the justice system while celebrating creativity and expression. The idea for the exhibition grew from a shared belief in the power of creativity to connect people and foster understanding.
Art teacher Daphne Vaughan, whose dedication and passion guided the children in producing the striking portraits on display, spoke about the personal inspiration behind the project, quoting Pablo Picasso: “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
Bearface Theatre CIC in HMP/YOI Winchester
BearFace Theatre believes in ‘Creative Action for Social Change’ and specialises in working with those affected by the Criminal Justice System in Hampshire & IOW.
This exhibition is inspired and influenced by the voices, ideas and experiences of men inside HMP/YOI Winchester. BearFace Theatre has been delivering creative projects in the prison since 2018, working with 221 prisoners over this time. This collection is a series of photographs and poems by the men, which include themes and questions which are important to them, including hope, freedom, voice and justice. It also features the sketches of professional artist Harriet Riddell who has observed BearFace sessions and documented them in illustration.
