Get ready to explore the Cathedral with our interactive summer family trail,
Inspired by nature and the upcoming Wild! Flower Festival, this hands-on trail invites children to discover the world of plants, gardens and flowers through fun and creative activities across the Cathedral.

Kings and Scribes exhibition

School Project Inspires Compassion and Understanding.

Each summer, Winchester Cathedral becomes a place of reflection, celebration, and transition, as thousands of Year 6 pupils gather for their Leavers’ Days. This year’s theme invites young people to step into the experiences of migrants and refugees, encouraging deeper understanding and a thoughtful response rooted in empathy, kindness, and faith.

Kings and Scribes exhibition

The perfect activity for curious minds; visit the three-level Kings and Scribes exhibition inside the cathedral for the ultimate hands-on learning experience. Explore 3D objects, design your own stained glass window and watch the Cathedral Scribes practice their calligraphy.

With a range of interactive displays and enthusiastic Guides to answer your questions,  this exhibition is guaranteed to be a hit with all ages.

Entry included with a valid annual pass to the cathedral.

Family friendly services

Services are welcome to all ages and worship is always free of entry charge. Children may enjoy Evensong services more, as this provides an opportunity to listen to the choirs singing.

Tower Tours

Great for thrill-seeking teens.

Climb 213 steps for an exhilarating tower tour of Winchester Cathedral and take in stunning panoramic views across the city and surrounding countryside. As you ascend the winding staircase to the cathedral roof, you’ll discover the ringing chamber, see the great cathedral bells up close, and walk the full length of the nave roof beneath its impressive timber beams.

Every year, children and young people become part of the rich musical tradition of Winchester Cathedral through our Boys’, Girls’ and Youth Choirs.Choir members receive outstanding musical training, perform at special services and events, and enjoy unique experiences while building confidence and friendships along the way.

The Outer Close of Winchester Cathedral is a popular picnic destination. Come with your blanket, pick up some takeaway drinks and snacks from the Cathedral Cafe and enjoy the shady spots under the trees.

As well as the popular spots, there’s also some hidden gems. Head to the Dean Garnier Garden inside the Inner Close if you need a moment to escape the hustle and bustle of the high street. With unrivaled views of the cathedral, this is a tranquil spot in the cathedral grounds which offers tranquility and calm to you and your family.

From 29 June to 10 July, access is via the South West door only.Due to ongoing works in the south transept, there is no wheelchair access to this area or the K&S exhibition at present.
