Commemorating those who lost their lives in war and honouring the service of the armed forces and their families, past and present

Remembrance Sunday Service, 10.00am.

The Reverend Canon Dr Roland Riem, Interim Dean of Winchester Cathedral, will lead the Remembrance Sunday Service.

The Right Reverend Philip Mounstephen, Bishop of Winchester, will preach.

At 10.00 am Custos will ring the bell to signal the start of the service, which begins with the choir introit: ‘They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old,’ and continues with familiar music from the Cathedral Choir as well as readings.

All are welcome to this service – it is recommended that you come early for a seat, as seating will be on a first-come-first-service basis. Details of how to book your place as a wreath layer, or indicate you are marching on parade will be available soon.

Everyone is welcome to join in-person or online via The Cathedral Channel.

The Official Two Minutes’ Silence, 11.00am.

Shortly before 11.00am the congregation joins the hundreds gathered outside around the War Memorial in the Outer Close for The Act of Remembrance, including a two minutes silence. This act allows space to pause, breathe and reflect on the service and sacrifices the Armed Forces have made to preserve our democratic freedoms.

Wreaths are laid at the War Memorial by dozens of local groups and associations.
