Add a pop of texture to your walls with our Tufted Wall Hanging Workshop! In this 2.5-hour session, you will learn the essentials of rug tufting and create a unique piece of fiber art to take home.
You have the freedom to choose your canvas shape: go for a classic square (30cm×30cm), a sleek rectangle (20cm×40cm) or even a funky shape. Whether you want to create an abstract design, a landscape, or a funky pattern, we’ll help you bring it to life. We recommend coming along with a design in mind, we find geometric or blocky designs in 2-4 colours work best. Please avoid characters, portraits and wording.
What to expect:
- Practice & Design (30 mins): We start by getting you comfortable with the tufting machine. You’ll practice your lines and sketch your custom design onto the cloth.
- Tufting (1.5 hours): The fun part! You will fill your frame with yarn, playing with colour and shape.
- Backing & Shaving (1 hour): We finish the session by gluing the back, adding a neat felt backing, and shaving the pile to give your wall hanging a crisp, professional look.

Design Junction is a creative studio based in the heart of Winchester city centre, just a short walk from the Cathedral. Working across art, design and education, they are passionate about making creativity accessible, engaging and enjoyable for everyone. Festival entry is included with your Annual Pass, making this an inspiring and creative addition to a day spent exploring the work of talented craft and design exhibitors from across the UK.
This workshop has 10 places available and requires a minimum number of participants to run. In the unlikely event that this minimum is not met, the workshop will be cancelled and all ticket holders will be notified in advance of the event start date.
