The longstanding partnership between the community of the Fleury Abbey and Winchester Cathedral has endured for a remarkable 1,000 years.
The planned visit in May 2026 is the first tour the choir has embarked on for a decade and will present a unique opportunity to perform internationally, while also strengthening the historic ties between the Cathedral and Abbey.
The best way to support the Choir’s trip to Fleury is to buy a ticket for its concert on 30 April. The Boy Choristers and Lay Clerks of Winchester Cathedral will perform an evening of English choral music on Thursday 30 April at 7.30pm in the magnificent setting of the Cathedral Nave.
This concert offers the first opportunity to hear the programme the choir will take on tour to Fleury and Paris in the days that follow, and will be an opportunity for those who have supported the boys and the wider choir community on their journey so far. Surrounded by the beauty and grandeur of the Cathedral, this promises to be an inspiring and uplifting occasion for all.
The Vice-Dean Roland Riem said: “Being present at the concert will support the Fleury Tour Appeal just as these remarkable young musicians and their colleagues set off for what promises to be a memorable tour.”
Anyone unable to attend the concert can support Winchester Cathedral’s Choral Foundation with a donation here, helping to safeguard the ancient tradition of choral music at the Cathedral.
The fundraising concert builds on the already successful efforts of chorister parents and others who have run a stall at the Christmas market among other initiatives.
