Community Lantern Project 2020
Spreading Comfort and Joy with Winchester Cathedral’s
Community Lantern Project, 2020
As the days get shorter and darker and we look towards the light and hope of Christmas, Winchester Cathedral has a creative project for you!
We’re making a giant suspended art installation from hundreds of lanterns. The good news is – anyone of any age can join in by making a cut-out white paper lantern from the simplest punched out shapes to elaborate paper-cut work. On the inside you’re invited to write a prayer or message which will be enfolded and offered up amidst the lights. It could be the name of a special person you want to remember or anything else that is special for you.
Help us build the biggest, brightest installation by adding your very own lantern. You can collect card from the Winchester Cathedral Education Centre from October 27 or use your own to make your lantern at home. You could also go to BellaCrafts on King’s Walk and combine lantern making with other fun craft ideas. Wherever you make your lantern, don’t forget to bring it back before 29th November!

Where to bring your finished lantern:
Return your lantern by 29 November to the Education Centre (Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm) or the Cathedral entrance desk (Saturday between 10am-4pm).
