Dean of Winchester blesses new store for the Basics Bank

Last week the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Winchester and President of The Basics Bank, Winchester, attended the opening of the new storage facility at Gabare House, Winnall Valley Road, which has been built to enable the Bank to serve more people in need in the local community.

The new facility will serve four local hubs from which food and toiletries will be accessible to those who find themselves in emergency need, and will operate itself as a food bank.

The Dean was pleased to be told that the Harvest contributions from the Cathedral had been generous and hugely appreciated. They had come at just the right time – in April! The food bank are now asking the Cathedral and local churches to make their harvest contribution at scheduled times during the year, to alleviate storage challenges, to enable a steady flow of food during the year and to avoid food going out of date.

‘I was so glad to hear that our gifts had been just right and I want to pass my thanks on to everyone who gave to the appeal, and to Jonathan Ryan for his work in delivering to the food bank,’ said the Very Reverend Catherine Ogle, Dean of Winchester. ‘We will be asked to give our Harvest donations in April again, next year, and I’m sure that we’ll be ready to rise to the cause of offering a helping hand to our neighbours.’
