Dean of Winchester hosts afternoon tea party to thank charity shop volunteers and staff

Volunteers and staff who previously worked at the charity shop, Cloisters, recently attended an afternoon tea party held for them in the Deanery Garden at Winchester Cathedral.

Following the closure of the charity shop earlier this year, the Dean of Winchester, the Very Revd Catherine Ogle and Alison Evans, COO at Winchester Cathedral organised this event to thank those who have worked at Cloisters for their contribution over the years.

Founded in 2007, Cloisters has raised over £100,000 from net profits to support the Cathedral and its work within the Hampshire community.

The Dean of Winchester, the Very Revd Catherine Ogle said, “We are immensely grateful to all our volunteers and staff for their time and dedication that they give to the Cathedral. We wanted to say thank you to the team who worked at Cloisters and for their support in helping to fund the Cathedral’s ministry and activities over the last fourteen years. Every single person played a vital role, bringing their own unique skills and personalities which made for a fantastic team”.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Winchester Cathedral and are essential to the running and upkeep of the building. Volunteering opportunities are varied, enabling the local community from all walks of life to become involved; from welcoming visitors on the entrance desk to helping in the gift shop or becoming a tour guide, bell ringer or flower arranger.
