Friends of Winchester Cathedral director recognised for Mayor of Winchester Community award
Friends of Winchester Cathedral director, Lucy Hutchin, has won one of the Mayor of Winchester’s 2021 Community Awards for going the extra mile to help and support people during the pandemic.
The awards recognise and celebrate the organisations that have made a real difference in the Winchester district and the individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help others – which has been especially important this past year.
Nominated by Bruce Parker, MBE, Lucy has been recognised for her commitment and dedication to the happiness of others, having given much of her own time to organising historial talks and coffee mornings on Zoom, which have provided a much needed lifeline for elderly and vulnerable members isolating at home.
Lucy Hutchin said: “I am delighted to receive the award in recognition of supporting the welfare of our members in what has been an extremely challenging time. For eldery or vulnerable people, the pandemic has left them unable to see friends and family, or to take part in other social activities. In organising a programme of free events and talks, we are helping to connect members to each other and to provide a much needed support network and sense of community through the Friends of Winchester Cathedral.”
The Friends is a registered charity set up to support the Cathedral. It provides regular grants to the Cathedral and provides fundraising support for specific projects.
