Entry to see Helios is included with the cathedral’s annual pass, with children aged 11 and under visiting free when accompanied by a paying adult. Visitors are encouraged to book online to save £1 per person.

Winchester Cathedral is delighted to host this celebration of light, hope, and community under the gaze of our closest star.”
Luke Jerram, Helios artist, said: “I’m delighted to have my artwork back at Winchester Cathedral after the success of Museum of the Moon back in 2024. Helios provides a safe opportunity for the public to get up close to, and inspect its extraordinarily detailed surface, including sunspots, spicules and filaments. A specially created surround sound composition by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson also connects the sculpture with the surrounding architecture and provides an uplifting experience for visitors.”
To celebrate the arrival of Helios, Winchester Cathedral will host a vibrant programme of events designed to banish the winter blues and bring people together under the sun. The Here comes the Sun programme at Winchester Cathedral offers a vibrant and diverse line-up of events beneath Luke Jerram’s Helios installation, ranging from early morning Pilates and late-night silent discos to folk concerts, gospel performances, and science comedy. Highlights include the Winchester Cathedral Choir’s celestial-themed concert, the London Community Gospel Choir’s Valentine’s Day celebration, and a baby-friendly opera exploring nature. Visitors can also enjoy talks on astronomy, immersive art experiences, and live music from rising indie-folk duo Our Atlantic Roots—all set within the stunning surroundings of the cathedral’s nave, illuminated by the glowing sun sculpture.
