A stunning display of handcrafted poppies has once again appeared on the railings outside Winchester Cathedral, bringing a sea of red to the city centre in the lead-up to Remembrance Sunday.
The knitted and crocheted poppies have been lovingly created by volunteers from across the district, including members of Sutton Scotney’s Knit and Natter group. The project has been coordinated by Sue Butcher, Chair of the Winchester Women’s Branch of the Royal British Legion, who has led the displays since 2018.
Sue not only helped make many of the poppies herself but also sewed them all onto netting and organised their installation outside the Cathedral – a true labour of love and remembrance.
The display serves as a poignant reminder of the lives lost in war and the continuing service of the armed forces and their families.
The Cathedral will host its Remembrance Sunday Service on Sunday 9th November 2025 at 10.00am (doors open at 9.00am).
All are warmly welcome to attend this special service of remembrance and reflection. No tickets are required for general seating, but visitors are encouraged to arrive early as seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
