The Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson, has been installed as a Companion of St Swithun at Winchester Cathedral. The award is the highest honour the cathedral can bestow and is given for “exceptional and outstanding service to the cathedral”.

The installation took place at a special St Swithun’s Evensong. A distinguished musician and former precentor at the cathedral, Canon Charles Stewart, has also recently become a Companion of the order.

The new Companions join the former Lord Lieutenant, Lady Mary Fagan, and Bruce Parker, who’s recently retired as chairman of the Cathedral Friends, as members of the distinguished order.

Only five people have been honoured by Winchester Cathedral in this way.
