The passage will remain closed throughout this period, including outside working hours, to ensure public safety.
During the closure, the public will be redirected via Watergate and the Outer Close, with clearly signposted diversions in place. Access for those will mobility issues will be available via the cathedral’s South Door.
While this may cause some short-term disruption, it marks an important milestone in Stone by Stone, a long-term conservation project to protect and preserve the cathedral.
The first phase of the project, focused on Bay One of the South Nave Aisle, is now complete. Work in this area has included repairs to the window, parapet and decorative stonework, alongside the careful conservation and renewal of a medieval-style figurative carving.
