Did you know?

A £50 donation enables detailed condition surveys and close-inspection recording of stone and glass. Careful investigation by experts such as stonemasons, architects, archaeologists and glass conservators to determine what repairs are needed in each bay. The purchase of essential conservation materials and tools. No conservation can begin without understanding the building. These gifts underpin every decision we make and ensure the right work is carried out in the right place, at the right time, in the right way.

Did you know?

A £500 donation enables cleaning, conserving, or repointing an individual stone. Minor repairs to carved details and weathered decorative elements. Direct hands-on intervention in the masonry of the South Nave Aisle. This level supports the conservation of a specific element within a bay, helping to stabilise historic fabric and slow further decay. In appreciation, your name, or that of a loved one, will be projected onto the stones of the Cathedral, and you will be invited to a special tour and talk to learn more about the conservation work and the skills of the Cathedral stonemasons and craftspeople.

A £1000 donation enables carving and installing replacement stone where original masonry has failed. Skilled repairs to grotesques, gargoyles, and carved architectural details. Active intervention that secures the structure of a bay for the future. A gift of £1000 helps fund the skilled hands that shape, repair, and renew the Cathedral’s fabric, helping to ensure the South Nave Aisle stands strong for generations. In appreciation, you will receive the benefits of a £500 donation, your initials (up to four characters) carved on the back of a replacement stone introduced during the conservation, and you will receive a digital photograph of the carving.

A £2000 donation enables a significant portion of conservation work within a single bay. Coordinated masonry repairs and preparation for stained-glass conservation. Safe access to high-level areas through specialist scaffolding. Conserving a bay requires stone, glass and ironwork to be treated together. This level supports the joined-up approach that underpins our long-term strategy. In appreciation, you will receive all the benefits of a £1000 donation, along with the opportunity to take part in a scaffold climb and see the work at close quarters.

A £5000 donation enables substantial conservation of a bay’s masonry. Careful removal, repair, conservation and reinstatement of medieval stained-glass. Investment in apprentices and traditional materials to ensure that knowledge continues into the Cathedral’s future. Stone and glass are inseparable. This gift ensures both are conserved together, structurally, artistically, and historically. In appreciation, you will receive all the benefits of a £2000 donation, and you will be invited to visit the Cathedral stonemasons’ workshop to gain insight into the craft behind the conservation.

A £10000 donation enables major contribution towards the conservation of an entire bay of the South Nave Aisle. Ongoing investment in the skilled crafts of stonemasonry, glass conservation, archaeology and architecture to ensure the Cathedral will stand, inspire and serve for generations still to come. Long-term protection of both structural masonry and medieval glass. Conserving the South Nave Aisle is a long-term endeavour. A gift at this level allows significant, carefully planned work to move forward, supporting skilled craft, specialist access, and the detailed processes needed to protect this historic fabric for future generations. In appreciation, you will receive all the benefits of a £1000 donation and you will also be invited to host a private reception for up to 10 guests, including a tour, scaffold climb, and visit to the masons’ workshop.
