A complete ‘behind the scenes’ tour.
Climb the spiraling steps up onto the cathedral roof and enjoying magnificent views of the county and beyond. As part of this tour, you’ll also explore the ringing chamber, the great Cathedral bells and walk the full length of the nave roof with its huge wood beams.

Selected language tours are available for pre-booked groups, a minimum of three weeks’ notice is required and are subject to availability.

William Walker MVO Tour - The Winchester Cathedral Diver
This tour tells the incredible story of William Walker, ‘the diver who saved the Cathedral with his own hands’. Led by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll explore how a single man, working in near-impossible conditions, saved the Cathedral from collapse. This tour offers the chance to ask questions, see key locations, and gain a deeper understanding of an engineering feat that quite literally kept the building standing.
Pre-bookable Special Interest Tours
The guides have arranged a diverse selection of tours, ready to feed curious minds. With topics from ‘Jane Austen – Her Life and Times’ to ‘Our Royal Heritage’ there’s always something new to learn.
Crypt Tour
The Crypt provides a stunning setting for Antony Gormley’s sculpture Sound II and is the least altered part of the Norman building.
Touring the Crypt is included with your general admission ticket, and tours take place Monday – Saturday at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm (subject to availability and weather conditions, please check with the Welcome Desk upon arrival).
Please note that the Crypt Tours are currently unavailable due to the wet weather.

'The Cathedral Building and its Treasures' touch tour
There will be opportunities to touch the stone that makes up the fabric of the building, and some objects that will enhance your understanding of the architecture of the Cathedral and some of its treasures.
Touch tours are free of charge with a valid general admission tickets.
Taking place throughout the year at dates/times announced. Private Tours can also be requested by special arrangement with the Box Office.
The Cathedral is a stunning building and no visit to Winchester would be complete without paying a visit. But the best part of the visit had to be the amazing volunteers who were welcoming and knowledgeable. If you can take part in one of the tours, your experience would be greatly enhanced!
